DESCRIPTION AND ETHNOBOTANY
Growth Form	It is a solitary, acaulescent (appearing to have no stem) palm.
Foliage	Its leaves are simple, broadly diamond shape, with jagged leaf margins on the upper half, up to 3 m long and 2 m wide. The undersurface of the leaves are covered with white hairs which give them a silvery or grey colour. Its petioles are short, with two conspicuous yellow stripes on the underside, and are coarsely toothed along the edge.
Flowers	Its small, white flowers are borne on a low and short inflorescence.
Fruits	Its fruits are round, about 4 cm across, ripening brown in colour.
Cultivation	It can be propagated by seed.
Habitat	It grows on steep slopes of ridges of lowland rainforests in Peninsular Malaysia.
Etymology	Latin Johannesteijsmannia, in honour of Johannes E. Teijsmann, a 19th century Dutch botanist. Latin magnifica, magnificent or beautiful, a reference to the attractive form and leaf fronds.
